KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 – The Dewan Negara has unanimously passed the Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) Bill 2025, marking a significant step toward Malaysia’s low-carbon transition. Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli highlighted the bill’s role in balancing economic growth with carbon reduction, particularly in heavy industries.

Under Budget 2025, a carbon tax will be introduced for the steel and energy sectors by 2026, while a CCUS hub in Kertih is set to drive industrial expansion and job creation. The Ministry of Economy will oversee a national CCUS governance framework to ensure sustainable implementation.
