PUTRAJAYA, April 13 — The National Registration Department (JPN) has issued a statement addressing the recent circulation of a 2019 letter allegedly containing a minute from the then Chief Minister of Sabah, purportedly supporting the issuance of an identity document to an individual from Semporna. JPN firmly clarified that all applications for identification documents—including MyKAS, MyPR, and MyKAD—are subject to existing laws, regulations, and policies, and are thoroughly evaluated under the National Registration Regulations 1990.
The department stressed that no application is approved solely based on letters of support from any party, including political leaders, government agencies, or NGOs. JPN further explained that MyKAS is a temporary resident identification document for individuals born in Malaysia with undetermined citizenship status. It does not confer citizenship rights, and holders must meet strict requirements before applying for permanent residency (MyPR) or Malaysian citizenship (MyKAD).
The department reaffirmed its commitment to transparent and professional governance, urging the public to seek verified information via official JPN offices, website, or social media channels.
