PUTRAJAYA, April 17 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at Seri Perdana for a high-level bilateral meeting focused on strengthening trade, diplomacy, and regional cooperation. The visit, marking Xi’s second official trip to Malaysia in 12 years, began with a warm cultural welcome, followed by a closed-door dialogue where both leaders discussed advancing bilateral relations and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
The meeting concluded with the signing of 31 memoranda of understanding, agreements, and official notes between the two nations, reaffirming Malaysia and China’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Later in the evening, Anwar hosted an official dinner in Xi’s honour, where both leaders delivered televised remarks highlighting the long-standing friendship and growing economic ties between the two countries.
Earlier, Xi was accorded a state welcome at Istana Negara and granted an audience with His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, who also hosted a state banquet. The visit underscores China’s recognition of Malaysia’s strategic role in the region and celebrates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, first established in 1974.
