KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 – The Home Ministry has issued a show-cause letter to Sin Chew Daily after the newspaper published an incomplete depiction of the Jalur Gemilang on its front page, omitting the crescent moon, a key symbol representing Islam as the religion of the federation.

The ministry has launched an investigation into the incident, citing concerns over professionalism and the potential impact on national harmony in Malaysia’s multiracial society. The ministry confirmed that the case is being investigated under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963 and the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984.

Stressing that the national flag must be treated with respect as a symbol of sovereignty and unity, the ministry warned that any failure to comply with official flag specifications could result in legal action. It also affirmed that no compromise would be made against actions deemed harmful to public safety and national cohesion.
