PULAU TIKUS, April 18 — In celebration of World Autism Month, the Pulau Tikus State Assemblyman Service Centre joined hands with local autism advocate LemmeLearn to organise a meaningful walkabout at Pulau Tikus Market, offering autistic children under their care a chance to engage with the community and build confidence.
This initiative not only promotes independence and self-esteem among participants but also fosters greater public awareness and acceptance of individuals with autism, encouraging society to embrace neurodiversity with compassion and understanding. Led by LemmeLearn founder Ms. Eileen Soon, the event also highlighted ongoing efforts to make Pulau Tikus more inclusive.
Such as the recent adjustment of pedestrian traffic light timings along Jalan Cantonment to better accommodate students with autism. A dialogue with Inspector Hamidi bin Bahari at the Pulau Tikus Police Station reinforced the importance of community support and safety for vulnerable groups.
Since 2023, the State Government has disbursed RM5.6 million in aid to 15,000 individuals with special needs, reflecting a broader commitment to uplift and support all members of society regardless of ability.
