PUTRAJAYA, April 18 – U Mobile has officially appointed Huawei Malaysia and ZTE Malaysia as technology partners for its enterprise-grade Next Gen 5G network, aiming to achieve 80% coverage of populated areas within the first year and 90% by the second.

Announced at a signing ceremony attended by Malaysia’s Communications Minister YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology representative Li Lecheng, this strategic move supports U Mobile’s commitment to accelerate nationwide 5G adoption through state-of-the-art infrastructure and robust indoor and outdoor connectivity.

The Next Gen 5G network will deliver advanced capabilities, including network slicing and 5G-Advanced features tailored for businesses, with focused deployments in smart cities, transport hubs, medical facilities, and more. U Mobile Chairman Tan Sri Vincent Tan credited the MADANI government and MCMC for enabling healthy industry competition through the dual 5G network model.

While CTO Woon Ooi Yuen emphasized that Huawei and ZTE’s global expertise will be key to rapid and high-quality deployment. The collaboration aims to set new benchmarks for innovation, digital transformation, and enterprise connectivity in Malaysia’s digital economy.
