KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 — MRT Corp has addressed public concerns over the Penang LRT Mutiara Line, assuring that the project remains on schedule with key milestones achieved in recent months. The company confirmed that it secured approval for advance works under Section 20A of the Town and Country Planning Act on April 15, and has gained access to 86 land plots under the Land Acquisition Act — progress made ahead of the targeted October 2025 timeline.
The project’s civil main contractor, SRS Consortium, is currently fulfilling post-award contractual conditions before the official Notice to Proceed can be issued. Once approved, SRS will begin finalising construction designs and relocating utilities, marking the start of pre-construction works essential for viaduct and station development.
MRT Corp reiterated its commitment to transparency and timely delivery, urging the public to continue their support. The Mutiara Line, a vital component of Penang’s transport master plan, will connect Komtar to the Penang International Airport, linking key residential, commercial, and industrial zones across the island.
