KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 — Palo Alto Networks’ newly released 2025 Unit 42 Global Incident Response Report has spotlighted a dramatic shift in cyber threat strategies, revealing that nearly 44% of security incidents worldwide in 2024 were web browser-related — largely driven by phishing, malicious redirects, and malware downloads.

With attackers increasingly prioritizing operational disruption, AI-assisted attacks, and insider threats over traditional data theft, the report warns of rising threats to critical infrastructure and urges immediate action. In Malaysia, where cyber incidents rose 5% year-on-year with 6,209 cases reported, the government has responded by allocating RM30 million in Budget 2025 to bolster national cyber resilience, including expansions to the National Scam Response Centre and NACSA.

As GenAI-enhanced phishing surges and attack vectors multiply, experts stress the urgent need for AI-driven, automated security measures to protect Malaysia’s rapidly digitizing economy.
