GEORGE TOWN, April 24 – Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd, the operator of Rapid Penang services, has announced the addition of three new zones under its Rapid Penang On-Demand service, set to commence on 26 April 2025. The new zones—George Town 6, Jelutong 4, and Bayan Lepas 4—will strengthen coverage in densely populated and underserved urban areas, enhancing first and last-mile connectivity to the existing Rapid Penang bus network and passengers’ direct destinations.
The service expansion will be supported by 14 vans, with plans to progressively add another 21 vans by June 2025. This initiative is part of Rapid Bus’s broader strategy to promote public transport usage, reduce traffic congestion, and ease parking challenges in key urban areas. Acting CEO Ku Jamil Zakaria emphasized the company’s commitment to extending access to areas previously underserved by public transit, further integrating On-Demand services with Rapid Penang’s regular routes.
Rapid Penang On-Demand operates daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM, offering a promotional fare of RM1.00 per ride. Bookings can be made through the Kummute app, with multiple payment options including Mutiara My50 Pass, OKU Smile Pass, credit/debit cards, DuitNow QR, and e-wallets.
