PUTRAJAYA, April 25 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke will meet his Thai counterpart in Bangkok on May 2 to address customs clearance issues hindering seamless rail connectivity from Malaysia to China under the Pan-Asian Railway Network. Highlighting that the railway route is technically passable, Loke said cross-border restrictions remain the main barrier to establishing regular rail services, particularly for cargo movement.

Speaking at the Railway Asset Corporation’s Customer Appreciation Ceremony, Loke noted that Malaysia’s rail infrastructure is nearly complete, with only a section in Johor pending. He emphasised that the railway should serve not only domestic needs but also facilitate regional trade, echoing Chinese President Xi Jinping’s call during his recent visit for stronger cooperation through the Land-Sea Corridor initiative.
