GELUGOR, April 25 — Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) has initiated early and proactive steps in preparation for a scheduled water supply disruption from April 25 to 28, 2025, which will affect both its Main and Engineering campuses.

The USM Crisis Water Taskforce, coordinated by the Disaster Management Unit (UPB), has mobilised cross-departmental efforts to mitigate the 24- to 48-hour interruption, including implementing work-from-home (WFH) arrangements on April 25 to prioritise water needs for residential students.

Chaired by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Network) Professor Dr. Azlan Amran, coordination meetings led to key decisions such as deploying water tankers in collaboration with Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP), enabling hybrid learning to reduce on-campus water consumption, and halting all student activities from April 24 to 30.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed reaffirmed USM’s commitment to safeguarding campus wellbeing and urged all students and staff to store sufficient water for daily and drinking needs ahead of the disruption.
