GEORGE TOWN, April 26 — Penang’s water supply recovery efforts following the April 2025 Scheduled Water Supply Interruption (SWSI) are progressing as planned, with Perbadanan Bekalan Air Pulau Pinang (PBAPP) confirming that 40% of the 341,708 affected consumers are expected to have their supply restored by 10.00pm tonight.

Phase 1 of the recovery targets residents in Seberang Perai Utara, Seberang Perai Tengah, and the North-East District (DTL) of Penang Island. PBAPP CEO Dato’ Ir. Pathmanathan K. reported that as of 4.00pm today, 22 out of 23 water infrastructure projects had been successfully completed. However, work on a pipeline connection related to the Sungai Perai River-Crossing Pipeline (SP-RCP) project faced delays due to flooding at the work site.

Despite this, PBAPP activated an alternative plan by utilising another pipeline and the 3rd Penang Twin Submarine Pipeline (3rd PTSP) to maintain Phase 1 recovery timelines. Phase 2 aims to achieve 88% water supply recovery by 10.00pm tomorrow, covering most of Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) and the South-West District of Penang Island (DBD), including key industrial areas, Penang International Airport, and Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Full recovery for the remaining end-of-line and high ground neighbourhoods is scheduled by 10.00am on Monday, 28 April 2025. PBAPP reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring all affected consumers receive their water supply as scheduled.
