KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 — The Court of Appeal has set June 25 as the verdict date for Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman’s appeal against his conviction and sentencing on four graft-related charges, including criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of funds, and money laundering.
The 33-year-old former youth and sports minister was sentenced in November 2023 to seven years in prison, two strokes of the rotan, and a RM10 million fine. The charges relate to the alleged misuse of Bersatu Youth (Armada) funds during his tenure as its chief, including RM1 million in CBT, RM120,000 in misused party funds, and RM100,000 in laundered proceeds.
A three-judge panel, led by Datuk Ahmad Zaidi Ibrahim, heard arguments from both sides over three days. A successful appeal would see Syed Saddiq walk free, though the prosecution retains the option to escalate the case to the Federal Court.
