PUTRAJAYA, April 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Treasury will thoroughly review the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) downgraded forecast of Malaysia’s 2025 GDP growth to 4.1 per cent, as published in the April 2025 World Economic Outlook.
Addressing reporters after attending the Royal Malaysian Customs Department’s Hari Raya celebration, Anwar noted that a full statement on Malaysia’s position will be delivered during the Special Parliamentary Sitting on May 5. Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, emphasized that the IMF’s revisions are part of a global reassessment affecting major economies such as the United States and China.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to evaluating the IMF’s report in collaboration with BNM and the Treasury, stressing that the changes reflect broader regional and international trends, with neighbouring economies like Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand also seeing downward adjustments in their 2025 growth forecasts.
