AYER KUNING, April 27 — Barisan Nasional (BN) reclaimed dominance in the Ayer Kuning state seat, winning the by-election with a 5,006-vote majority through candidate Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir. Umno president and BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi celebrated the victory, noting that 10 out of 11 polling stations lost during the 2022 general election had returned to BN’s fold.

Zahid emphasized that the result demonstrated the people’s rejection of divisive politics, affirming support for stability, development, and the unity government’s leadership. The by-election was held following the passing of incumbent assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin, whose legacy Zahid vowed to honour. BN secured 11,065 votes, defeating Perikatan Nasional’s Abdul Muhaimin Malek and Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s K.S. Bawani.

Leaders including Umno information chief Azalina Othman Said and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad praised the tireless efforts of BN’s campaign machinery and the voters’ strong endorsement, reflecting a renewed confidence in BN’s governance at both the state and national levels.
