GEORGE TOWN, April 29 — With the Data Sharing Act 2025 officially in effect, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo today called on state governments to enact complementary legislation that would enable seamless data sharing across federal, state, and local agencies.

Speaking after his visit to the Penang Island City Council’s Intelligent Operations Centre, Gobind emphasized that a coordinated legal framework is crucial for building a robust nationwide data-sharing ecosystem and advancing Malaysia’s digitalisation efforts.

Gobind highlighted that while the new federal law facilitates data sharing among federal agencies through a stringent, secure application process, broader integration with state and local bodies requires individual state laws.

He added that a dedicated committee under the Digital Ministry would oversee data requests to protect privacy and prevent misuse, ensuring that data sharing is both responsible and beneficial to the nation’s development.
