KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 — Vale and Petrobras, through Petrobras Singapore, have launched a commercial partnership to supply a chartered ship with Very Low Sulfur (VLS) B24 marine fuel, containing 24% second-generation biodiesel. The bulk carrier Luise Oldendorff was fueled in Singapore on April 22, 2025, using a blend formulated by Petrobras Singapore from 76% fossil fuel oil and 24% UCOME, a biofuel derived from used cooking oil.
Certified under the ISCC EU sustainability standards, this initiative marks a significant step toward advancing decarbonization strategies for both companies, reinforcing their shared commitment to greener maritime operations. The partnership forms part of a broader strategy by Vale to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its shipping operations, supporting the International Maritime Organization’s emission targets and aligning with Vale’s goals to cut scope 1 and 2 emissions by 33% by 2030 and scope 3 emissions by 15% by 2035.
Meanwhile, Petrobras’ commercialization of renewable-content bunker fuels reflects its Business Plan 2025-2029, which allocates US$16.3 billion toward energy transition and decarbonization projects — a 42% increase from the previous plan — as the company seeks to expand its low-carbon product offerings and drive innovation in the energy sector.
