GEORGE TOWN, May 1 – The Ministry of Digital reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating digital transformation across Penang and its neighbouring states during the Malaysia Digital (MD) Open Day 2025.

Speaking at the event, Minister Gobind Singh Deo highlighted the strategic importance of the northern corridor – Penang, Perlis, Kedah, and Perak – as a critical growth engine, emphasizing efforts such as the launch of the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO), the enforcement of the Data Sharing Act 2025, and initiatives to support MSMEs through the Business Digitalisation Initiative (BDI).

With 254 active MD companies in the northern region and RM16.2 billion in new investments pledged nationwide this year alone, Penang stands out with RM1.23 billion in MD-approved investments focused heavily on Data Centre, Cloud, IC design, and embedded software sectors.

Strengthening its presence, the Ministry has also established a Northern Office in Penang to better align national digital policies with local needs, ensuring Malaysia’s bold vision for an innovation-driven, inclusive digital economy becomes a reality.
