GEORGE TOWN, May 5 — Malaysia has recorded RM16.2 billion in digital investments between January and mid-April 2025, with over 60 per cent led by data centre and cloud infrastructure, according to Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

Speaking at the Malaysia Digital Open Day in Penang, he said these investments are projected to create approximately 6,500 high-value jobs over the next five years, with Penang alone attracting RM1.23 billion and generating 266 new job opportunities.

Gobind added that artificial intelligence (AI) companies now account for the largest share of new Malaysia Digital-status firms, followed by data centres and global business services. With strong investor confidence from countries such as the Netherlands, Singapore, and India.

He reaffirmed Malaysia’s position as a regional tech hub. Upcoming events like the Malaysia AI Summit 2025 and Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur 2025 are expected to further elevate the nation’s digital leadership and sustainable urban innovation across ASEAN.
