KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — An international symposium organized by the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health (UNU-IIGH) and Third World Network concluded today with a resounding call for greater accountability of powerful private actors in global health.
Held at the Holiday Inn, Bangsar, the event gathered over 100 global experts to address the growing influence of corporate interests in undermining public health systems, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
Highlighting the urgent need for systemic reforms, participants emphasized the dangers of rising global inequality, the role of transnational corporations in restricting access to essential medicines, and called for stronger regulatory frameworks to defend the public interest and promote health equity worldwide.
