JEJU, May 15 — Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz, is in Jeju, South Korea, leading the national delegation at the 31st APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade (MRT) Meeting.

Amid global economic uncertainty and evolving trade dynamics, Tengku Zafrul is expected to underscore Malaysia’s firm commitment to a transparent, inclusive, and rules-based multilateral trading system, with the World Trade Organisation (WTO) at its core. This aligns with South Korea’s APEC 2025 priorities of enhancing connectivity, fostering AI innovation, and promoting sustainable trade.

The summit also highlights the growing support for the Investment Facilitation for Development (IFD) Agreement, with member economies encouraging its integration into the WTO framework to enhance global investment transparency and predictability.

Tengku Zafrul is slated to hold several key bilateral meetings on the sidelines, including with trade leaders from South Korea, the United States, Japan, and Australia, as well as attend an informal ministerial dialogue on the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

These engagements reinforce Malaysia’s strategic role in shaping a resilient and future-ready Asia-Pacific economic landscape.
