Miscarriage, affecting 15.9% of Malaysian women of reproductive age, is a profound and often traumatic experience with lasting emotional and physical impacts. Occurring most frequently in the first trimester, it can result from factors such as maternal age, medical conditions, or lifestyle risks, though many causes remain unknown.
Symptoms like vaginal bleeding and severe pain should never be ignored, and proper diagnosis and treatment—whether expectant, medical, or surgical—are critical for recovery. Beyond the physical toll, miscarriage can lead to deep emotional distress, including anxiety, depression, and even PTSD. Supportive care, follow-up, and societal empathy are vital for healing.
Empowering women to speak openly about their experiences not only fosters personal resilience but also advances broader health goals in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: ensuring good health and well-being for all.
