JOHOR BARU, May 24 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has officially retained his position as Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president for the 2025–2028 term, winning uncontested. The announcement was made by PKR’s Central Election Committee (JPP) chair Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa during the party’s National Congress held at the Persada International Convention Centre.
Anwar, who has led PKR since 2018, said he now intends to dedicate one day each week to strengthen party unity and engagement, especially at the grassroots level. In his policy speech, Anwar acknowledged having focused heavily on national matters over the past three years as prime minister, at the expense of internal party affairs.
He urged PKR members to move forward with solidarity, regardless of election outcomes, emphasizing the need to avoid factionalism and embrace respectful dialogue. “Learn from weaknesses, use your experience and continue contributing meaningfully to the party,” he advised.
Anwar also addressed the controversial extension of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki’s tenure, defending the decision on grounds of integrity and bold leadership in combating high-level corruption.
He expressed confidence in Azam’s performance and called on all parties to allow MACC to operate independently while preparations are made for a capable successor.
