GEORGE TOWN, May 26 — The Penang government has spent RM3.3 million on 15 new Toyota Camry 2.5AV cars for state executive councillors and key officials, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow confirmed at the state legislative assembly today.
The vehicles, each costing approximately RM220,780, were delivered on March 4 and are intended to replace an ageing fleet over five years old. Responding to a query from Lim Guan Eng (DAP–Air Putih), Chow clarified that the cars were allocated to 10 state executive councillors, three ex officio members, the Speaker, and Deputy Speaker.
When asked if the new cars were electric vehicles in line with the state’s green agenda, Chow said he was not aware of the specific vehicle specifications.
