GEORGE TOWN, May 26 — The reclamation of Silicon Island off Penang’s southern coast is expected to take 10 to 15 years, with 6.5 per cent of the 930-hectare project completed as of April 30, the Penang state assembly heard today. State Infrastructure, Transport, and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the project will be executed in two phases, beginning with the reclamation of 510 hectares, followed by 421 hectares in phase two.
Zairil also addressed the land acquisition for Phase One of the Pan Island Link 2A (PIL2A) highway, which required 13 land lots, 17 homes, two business premises, one welfare home, and one place of worship in Permatang Damar. The acquisitions, approved and gazetted in 2023, involved total compensation of over RM24 million, with most stakeholders receiving upwards of RM1.5 million per lot and three individuals granted ex-gratia payments of RM43,500 each.
