KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 – ASEAN leaders have issued a unified call for an expanded and sustained nationwide ceasefire in Myanmar, as part of intensified efforts to address the escalating conflict and humanitarian crisis worsened by the recent 7.7-magnitude earthquake.

In a joint statement, the leaders reaffirmed the Five-Point Consensus as the guiding framework for a peaceful, inclusive, and Myanmar-led resolution, urging all parties to halt violence, protect civilians, and enable safe delivery of humanitarian aid.

Acknowledging the recent ceasefire declarations by parties within Myanmar, ASEAN emphasized the urgent need for a conducive environment to facilitate humanitarian assistance and inclusive national dialogue.

The bloc reaffirmed its support for the ASEAN Chair and Special Envoy’s efforts, calling for greater international cooperation, including with the UN, to support peace, stability, and the restoration of democracy in Myanmar, while addressing related transnational threats such as human trafficking and online scams.
