KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 — The Kuala Lumpur Declaration on Asean 2045: Our Shared Future, signed during the 46th Asean Summit, marks a pivotal milestone in the region’s pursuit of deeper integration and sustainable progress. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described the vision as a defining chapter that lays the foundation for a resilient, innovative, dynamic and people-centred Asean over the next two decades.
Anwar stressed that the future of Asean must be anchored in sustainability, inclusivity and shared prosperity, with the declaration aiming to close development gaps, elevate living standards and invest in the region’s human capital. “We renew our promise to our peoples, to our region and to the generations yet to rise,” he said, calling for unity, realism and resolve in shaping a brighter regional future.
The Asean 2045 Vision builds upon the bloc’s earlier Asean 2025 plan, introducing strategic focuses such as digital transformation, the green and blue economies, supply chain resilience, and inclusive governance. With four key pillars — political security, economic advancement, socio-cultural integration and improved connectivity — the blueprint positions Asean as a key player in a fast-evolving global landscape.
Signed by all 10 Asean leaders and witnessed by regional dignitaries, the declaration reflects a shared ambition to transform Asean into a globally influential force. As Malaysia chairs the summit for the fifth time, Anwar reiterated the bloc’s commitment to unity and forward-looking leadership amid geopolitical and technological disruption.
