KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 — Nurul Izzah Anwar today praised outgoing Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, highlighting his bold ideas and unwavering principles as assets to Malaysia’s political future. Following his resignation announcement, she remarked that many of Rafizi’s policy ideas will endure — not for political credit, but because “they are what is right for Malaysia.”
She added that his approach to thinking and governance remains essential for progress, even outside of government. Rafizi’s resignation, effective June 17, comes after his defeat to Nurul Izzah in the PKR deputy president race. In response, Nurul Izzah reaffirmed her focus on strengthening party leadership and ensuring continuity of key responsibilities.
As part of her leadership agenda, she also announced a new initiative mandating anti-graft, corruption, and tax law training for all PKR leaders — from the central to branch levels — to reinforce good governance and prevent misconduct. “We must be the example of the change we want to see in others,” Nurul Izzah said, underscoring PKR’s commitment to integrity and reform.
Her statement comes amidst broader shifts in the party, with fellow minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad also stepping down after losing his vice-president post in the recent PKR polls.
