Huawei has officially launched the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, the world’s first 18-inch foldable laptop, marking a groundbreaking moment in personal computing and an ambitious push into the premium notebook space. The device boasts an ultra-slim form factor at just 7.3mm thick and 1.16kg when fully unfolded, housing a stunning LTPO OLED screen with a 3.3K resolution, 1600-nit peak brightness, and the world’s first dual-layer foldable display panel in a consumer laptop.
The foldable design transforms the screen from a full 18-inch 4:3 ratio into a compact 13-inch 3:2 display, thanks to a revolutionary 285mm water drop hinge engineered for unmatched strength and fluid motion. Powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin X90 chipset and running HarmonyOS 5, the laptop offers seamless integration across Huawei’s ecosystem of smartphones, tablets, and wearables, delivering advanced cross-device functionality via SuperHub, gesture controls, and AI-driven productivity tools.

Internally, the MateBook Fold is equipped with 32GB RAM and up to 2TB SSD storage, cooled by a high-efficiency system featuring dual diamond aluminum fans and an antigravity vapor chamber. It supports 140W USB-C fast charging for its 74.69Wh battery, balancing heavy performance needs with energy efficiency thanks to its LTPO technology. Priced at 23,999 yuan (~$3,328) for the base model, it competes directly with other foldables while offering more screen real estate and ecosystem capabilities.
The MateBook Fold is currently available in China, with no word yet on global availability due to ongoing U.S. sanctions. However, the launch cements Huawei’s trajectory toward full tech independence and sets a high benchmark for future PC innovation. By combining self-developed hardware and software into a unified experience, Huawei is not only redefining laptops but also asserting China’s growing influence in cutting-edge consumer technology.
