SINGAPORE, June 3 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim delivered a powerful Special Address at the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue, urging the international community to take decisive, consistent action in response to the genocide in Gaza. Highlighting the severity of the humanitarian crisis, Anwar warned against “selective outrage” and called the global response a test of collective conscience.
He also addressed key regional concerns including the crisis in Myanmar and rising tensions in the South China Sea, reinforcing Malaysia’s commitment to peace, inclusion, and adherence to international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
On the sidelines of the summit, Anwar met with United States Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth and Boeing Global President Dr Brendan Nelson to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation in defence, maritime security, and industry development.
The meetings underscored Malaysia’s growing relevance in the regional and global defence landscape, with discussions covering asset modernisation, investment in education, and building a robust Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) ecosystem in collaboration with local industry.
