LONDON, June 3 — Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has downplayed the impact of Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz’s resignation from the party, stating that his departure has not stirred tensions within Umno.
Speaking during his working visit to the United Kingdom, Zahid said grassroots members widely viewed the move as appropriate due to Tengku Zafrul’s perceived lack of loyalty to the party.
Zahid also affirmed that the decision over Tengku Zafrul’s ministerial role lies solely with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, though Umno will discuss internally the possibility of reclaiming its full quota of seven ministerial posts within the Unity Government.
