GEORGE TOWN, June 5 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today assured that comprehensive traffic management plans will be in place to minimise congestion during the construction of key infrastructure projects, including the Mutiara Line LRT, Penang South Islands (PSI), and the Juru–Sungai Dua Elevated Highway.
He stressed that maintaining the existing number of road lanes will be a top priority throughout the construction phases, drawing from best practices seen in Kuala Lumpur. Speaking at the MICCI Northern Annual Luncheon Dialogue, Chow confirmed that the LRT project is set to begin in Q3 2025, with a completion timeline of six to seven years.
While the elevated highway is slated to start by year-end. He also highlighted that over 60 hectares of land have been reclaimed for PSI, with the state anticipating federal incentives to attract industrial buyers.
