GEORGE TOWN, June 7 – Penang State Executive Councillor Zairil Khir Johari has officially withdrawn his defamation suit against activists Ravinder Singh and Khoo Salma Nasution after both parties retracted and expressed regret over allegations made during the 2023 Penang State Election.
The settlement, confirmed at the Penang Sessions Court, concluded with a mutual agreement acknowledging that the claims against Zairil were unfounded. The disputed remarks, initially shared on social media in August 2023, implied improper influence in the appointment of a project partner for the Penang South Reclamation project.
In a joint statement, Ravinder and Khoo apologised for any harm caused, removed the content from their platforms, and pledged not to republish it. Zairil stated the outcome should serve as a reminder to ensure accuracy before making public accusations.
