GEORGE TOWN, June 14 – The family of two Chinese tourists killed in a tragic tree fall incident at the Pinang Peranakan Museum last September has filed a RM1.7 million civil suit against six parties, including the museum operator, landowners, tour agency, and the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).

The suit was filed at the Penang High Court by Yang Xueli, widow and mother of the deceased, and Wang Geng Feng, widower of Liu Xinxin, citing negligence and failure to maintain public safety at a tourist destination.

The legal action follows unanswered or inadequate responses to letters of demand sent earlier this year. The defendants include Pinang Peranakan Mansion Sdn Bhd, SSM Capital Sdn Bhd, Sri Kumaran’s Textile Sdn Bhd, Pony Holiday Sdn Bhd, individual driver Har Kwai Leng, and MBPP.

The plaintiffs’ lawyer, Ng Kian Nam, emphasized that this action seeks justice and accountability for the lives lost and urged tourism authorities to ensure safer environments at key tourist attractions.
