Kaspersky has uncovered over 250,000 cyberattack attempts disguised as popular anime titles from Q2 2024 to Q1 2025, exploiting Gen Z’s deep connection to shows like Naruto, Demon Slayer, and Attack on Titan. The cybersecurity firm revealed that attackers often bait fans with fake “exclusive episodes” or “premium access” to deliver malware, with Naruto alone accounting for more than 114,000 attack attempts.
Streaming platforms like Netflix have also become prime targets, with over 85,000 attempts and 2.8 million phishing pages mimicking the platform’s branding. To combat this growing threat, Kaspersky launched Case 404, an interactive game designed to help Gen Z identify and avoid cyber risks. By turning players into digital detectives solving cybercrime cases, the initiative aims to build awareness and equip young users with practical cybersecurity skills.
With fandom culture and streaming habits becoming key parts of Gen Z’s lifestyle, Kaspersky emphasizes the need for vigilance and digital protection in today’s entertainment-driven online world.
