KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 – Cybersecurity firm Kaspersky revealed that over 7 million streaming service accounts were compromised in 2024, including Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video, with Netflix alone accounting for more than 5.6 million leaked credentials.
These credentials were not stolen directly from platforms but harvested through broader credential theft campaigns linked to malware infections, often caused by pirated downloads, fake browser extensions, and unofficial apps. Brazil, Mexico, and India topped the list of affected countries, reflecting the global scale of the issue.
To address growing threats in digital entertainment spaces beloved by Gen Z, Kaspersky has launched “Case 404,” an interactive cyber-detective game that educates users on how to recognize cyber risks and protect their digital identities.
Emphasizing that streaming is more than entertainment for Gen Z — it’s a vital cultural and social hub — Kaspersky urges users to practice safer browsing habits, use official platforms, and secure their devices with tools like Kaspersky Premium and VPN services to prevent personal data leaks and financial fraud.
