KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 — Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail has been appointed Malaysia’s new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) effective June 23, 2025, for a two-year contract.

The announcement was made by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who confirmed that the appointment received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong based on the advice of the prime minister and the recommendation of the Police Force Commission.

Mohd Khalid, 60, previously served as director of the Special Branch and retired in April before being reappointed on a contract basis. With a career in the Royal Malaysia Police dating back to 1987, he has held multiple strategic roles, including deputy director of Special Branch and security liaison officer in London.

Saifuddin described Khalid as a leader with strong competency and leadership qualities capable of steering the force forward. He succeeds Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who completes his two-year tenure today.

Razarudin, who previously took over from Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani, will be honoured in a handover and farewell ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre on Jalan Semarak later today.
