GEORGE TOWN, June 24 – InvestPenang is set to meet with Intel this week or next to seek clarity on the tech giant’s plans for its nearly completed advanced chip facility in Penang.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the discussion comes amid ongoing construction and internal outfitting, with the visit aimed at understanding Intel’s next steps for the site, which was announced in 2021.
The meeting follows recent reports of significant global job cuts at Intel and comes as the company’s reinvestment strategy in Malaysia is under close scrutiny.
Chow noted that while progress on the facility is evident, updates from Intel are timely, especially with RM50 billion already invested in Malaysia and over 12,000 local employees under the company’s wing.
