PETALING JAYA, June 25 — The future of Muda and its founding leader Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman hangs in the balance as the Court of Appeal is set to deliver its verdict tomorrow on the Muar MP’s appeal against his 2023 conviction for corruption and money laundering.
Acting party president Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz said the party remains united but acknowledges that the outcome could significantly impact its direction. Although Syed Saddiq stepped down as Muda president last year, he remains the party’s only MP and a central figure.
Amira noted that Muda has no immediate plans to fill the presidency, with party elections expected soon. “If everything goes smoothly, it will be up to Syed Saddiq to decide whether or not he wants to run again,” she said.
Syed Saddiq was sentenced to seven years’ jail, a RM10 million fine, and two strokes of the rotan by the High Court last November, though the punishment has been stayed pending his appeal.
