RIO DE JANEIRO, July 8 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim voiced Malaysia’s strong support for the Brics Statement on Artificial Intelligence Governance, endorsing ethical, inclusive, and development-focused AI.

Speaking at the Brics Leaders’ Summit, Anwar highlighted Malaysia’s commitment through the National AI Roadmap and AI Governance Guidelines, and proposed the formation of an Asean AI Safety Network to ensure responsible AI practices across the region.

Anwar also stressed the urgency of digital cooperation, noting that with proper investment and standards, Asean’s digital economy could reach US$2 trillion by 2030. Reaffirming Malaysia’s 2025 Asean Chairmanship theme of “Inclusivity and Sustainability”.

He welcomed Brics’ push for a fair, rules-based global trading system and called for multilateralism that delivers tangible outcomes in an increasingly fragmented world.
