GEORGE TOWN, July 11 — A poetic exploration of freedom, identity, and quiet rebellion takes centre stage as Birdy, the acclaimed contemporary dance production by Taiwanese choreographer Lai Hung-Chung, makes its Southeast Asian premiere at George Town Festival 2025.
Melding Chinese opera, mythology, and Tai Chi with modern movement, Birdywill be performed on August 9 and 10 at Dewan Sri Pinang. Presented as part of the Isle to Isle series in collaboration with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia.
The 60-minute performance uses Ling Zi feathers and rattan poles as evocative symbols to guide audiences through a dreamlike journey of self-discovery. Tickets are priced at RM60, RM80, and RM100, promising a powerful visual and emotional experience.
