KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has underscored the pivotal role of cooperatives in improving the socioeconomic well-being of Malaysians, especially the B40 group, micro-entrepreneurs, and local communities.
Speaking at the official launch of Wisma Co-Opbank Pertama (CBP) — through a speech read by Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick — Anwar said the cooperative sector is essential to realising the government’s Malaysia Madani vision by empowering people through financial services and inclusive economic opportunities.
With over 16,000 cooperatives and more than 7.2 million members registered as of December 2024, Anwar praised CBP for its record-breaking financial year, achieving RM124.29 million in profit and RM12.84 billion in total assets.
He said Wisma CBP, officially launched in conjunction with CBP’s 75th anniversary, stands as a national symbol of cooperative resilience and is expected to boost community involvement and strengthen the sector’s contribution to Malaysia’s economic development.
