KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Higher Education Ministry and Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to safeguard the academic freedom and educational rights of students involved in the recent Gempur Rasuah 2.0 rally.
His press secretary, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, said Anwar believes dissent is fundamental to democracy and that differing views should not jeopardize students’ futures. This comes amid reports of student detentions and possible disciplinary action against 13 UMS students following the anti-corruption protest in Kota Kinabalu.
Anwar’s call reflects his stance as a former student activist and reinforces the importance of protecting youth voices in national discourse.
