PUTRAJAYA, July 14 — Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad has called for a comprehensive, whole-of-government approach to address the growing brain drain in Malaysia’s healthcare sector, stressing that the Ministry of Health (MOH) cannot tackle the issue alone.
Citing recommendations from the Strategic Engagement Group’s study on the future of Malaysia’s health workforce, he urged the formation of an inter-ministerial Human Resource for Health (HRH) Governance Board.
Dzulkefly said collaboration with agencies like the Public Service Department, Ministry of Finance, Higher Education, and Human Resources is essential for long-term workforce planning. He also reaffirmed MOH’s commitment to reforms, digitalisation, and regional cooperation.
While responding to concerns over Malaysian doctors being recruited by Singapore hospitals. Efforts such as accelerating permanent appointments for contract doctors and improving working conditions are part of the ministry’s strategy to retain healthcare professionals.
