KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 — The 269th Conference of Rulers convened at Istana Negara yesterday, chaired by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, to discuss pressing national matters including security, judiciary leadership, and public health.
The meeting featured briefings from Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Chief of Defence Forces General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, providing updates on Malaysia’s current safety and defence landscape.
Among the key issues deliberated were high-level judicial appointments to the Federal Court, Court of Appeal, and High Courts, including the Chief Justice and the President of the Court of Appeal.
The Rulers also considered the proposed nationwide ban on vape and e-cigarette products, legal perspectives from Islamic councils, and policies regarding refugee marriages and the centralised management of seized assets.
The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, confirmed broad participation from Malaysia’s royalty and state leaders. His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the King of Malaysia, was present at the pre-council session held earlier.
The previous Conference of Rulers was held in February and chaired by the Sultan of Kedah.
