KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said reaffirmed the government’s commitment to judicial independence and transparency, following the Malaysian Bar’s recent “Walk to Safeguard Judicial Independence” and submission of a 65-page memorandum.

She announced that the Bar will be invited to participate in a comparative study on judicial appointment systems worldwide, aimed at strengthening public trust in the process. Azalina also outlined existing constitutional mechanisms for addressing judicial misconduct, including the use of tribunals and the Judges’ Code of Ethics 2009.

And stressed that judicial integrity must remain protected from political and external interference. The move underscores the government’s Malaysia Madani pledge to uphold rule of law, press freedom, and institutional reform.
