PUTRAJAYA, July 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his willingness to meet Umno leaders regarding the alleged royal addendum decree that could allow Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve his prison term under house arrest.
However, he stressed that the matter remains before the courts and cannot be acted upon prematurely. “I’ve informed the Umno leadership that I’m ready to discuss and clarify, but any action must follow the judicial process,” Anwar said after Friday prayers in Presint 14.
This comes after 160 Umno division chiefs reportedly endorsed a statement urging the Prime Minister to implement the decree without delay. Earlier, the Attorney General’s Chambers confirmed the existence of the purported addendum issued by a former King, as the Federal Court continues deliberation on the matter.
Anwar reiterated that while the government respects differing views, legal proceedings must be allowed to take their course.
