KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is calling on passengers of express and tour buses to lodge complaints through the MyJPJ app if their seatbelts are faulty.
Kuala Lumpur JPJ director Hamidi Adam said passengers must submit photo or video evidence along with journey details to facilitate investigations, adding that drivers are responsible for reminding passengers to buckle up before departure.
This comes as JPJ intensifies seatbelt enforcement following the new rule mandating seatbelt use on express and tour buses starting 1 July. In a special operation at the Gombak Toll Plaza, 23 passengers were fined for not wearing seatbelts, with many claiming ignorance of the new rule.
Hamidi stressed that public transport safety is a shared responsibility among passengers, operators, and enforcement agencies.
