With macOS 26 “Tahoe,” Apple has unveiled a major upgrade to Control Center that finally addresses one of the Mac’s most persistent complaints: menu bar clutter caused by the notch.
For the first time, third-party apps can now integrate directly into the Control Center, offering quick access to key features without crowding the menu bar. This update is especially meaningful for users of smaller MacBook Pro and Air models, where the notch often pushed menu bar items out of view.
Until now, users had to rely on third-party workarounds — but Apple’s new approach provides a native, streamlined solution. While developers must adopt new APIs to take advantage of this feature, Apple’s redesign hints at a cleaner, more customizable interface for Mac users.
Combined with interactive widgets, macOS 26 Tahoe could make overflowing menu bars a thing of the past.
