KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) awarded RM66.64 million in tenders to companies that failed technical and financial evaluations, violating key procurement procedures, according to the Auditor-General’s Report 2/2025.

The report found that UKM’s Tender Procurement Committee overrode recommendations from its Technical, Financial, and Pre-Tender Committees, including awarding elevator replacement and LINAC equipment tenders to unqualified firms.

The report highlighted serious governance lapses, including the absence of a Ministry of Finance representative and non-attendance by the Ministry of Higher Education’s appointee.

It recommended disciplinary action against those involved and called for a review of UKM’s procurement practices to align with Treasury guidelines, alongside close monitoring of critical projects like those at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM).
